News2002-11-13 DirectFB 0.9.15 and XDirectFB-1.0-rc3This DirectFB release is a major improvement of the multi application core. Better performance and stability is achieved using a new kernel module which implements critical parts of our internal IPC API called Fusion. For a summary of changes for DirectFB please look at the NEWS file. For a full list you should read the ChangeLog. For a list of changes for XDirectFB please read its ChangeLog.
DirectFB 0.9.15
is ready for download. 2002-11-10 GTK+-DirectFB version 2.0.8 availableThe GTK+ team released version 2.0.8 of the GIMP ToolKit and we created a new tarball of GTK+ for DirectFB based on this release. New in this version is support for the LUT8 pixelformat which is represented in GDK as a pseudo color visual. On the GTK+ page you will find a patched version of GTK+-2.0.8. This release needs at least DirectFB-0.9.14, glib-2.0.6, atk-1.0.1 and pango-1.0.1. The download area has the latest source packages of the these libraries. The 2.0.8 release of GTK+-DirectFB adds support for a pseudo color visual which represents the LUT8 pixelformat. Since this format needs only 8bit per pixel it allows to create user interfaces with small memory footprint. A couple of bugs have been fixed and drawing was optimized. The ChangeLog sums it all up; definitely worth a download. 2002-10-29 DirectFB 0.9.14 released
DirectFB can be used without a frame buffer device now for testing (running on SDL).
DirectFB compiles and runs on MacOS X, FreeBSD, NetBSD and OpenBSD now (via SDL).

is ready for download. 2002-09-30 DirectFB on FLTK?Sanda sent us a mail about a survey on the FLTK homepage...
Hi there! 2002-08-26 GTK+-DirectFB version 2.0.6 availableBased upon the 2.0.6 release of GTK+, we have built a new tarball of GTK+ for DirectFB. Despite the numerous bug-fixes in the official GTK+ tarball this release fixes a couple of problems in the DirectFB port. On the GTK+ page you will find a patched version of GTK+-2.0.6. This release needs DirectFB-0.9.13, glib-2.0.6, atk-1.0.3 and pango-1.0.4. The download area has updated packages of the these libraries. For this release we have reduced the changes to GTK+ and to the backend-independant parts of GDK to a minimum. DirectFB-specific API additions have been moved into the gdk-directfb namespace. The README explains this in more details. A number of special drawing functions have been implemented, most importantly XOR drawing. We have reviewed the GdkProperty implementation, extended support for visuals and added preliminary colormap handling. An exit handler has been added that frees allocated DirectFB resources. The latter change greatly improves useability with the multi-application core of DirectFB. To sum it all up: definitely worth a download. 2002-08-23 DirectFB 0.9.13, DFBSee 0.7.3 and DFBPoint 0.7.2 releasedLots of fixes, improvements and API additions. Savage driver enhanced. For a summary of changes for DirectFB please look at the NEWS file. For a full list you should read the ChangeLog.
DirectFB 0.9.13
is ready for download. 2002-06-19 DirectFB 0.9.12, DirectFBGL 0.9.12 and GTK+-DirectFB 2.0.5Some new functions for custom text layouting, many bug fixes. For a summary of changes for DirectFB please look at the NEWS file. For a full list you should read the ChangeLog.
DirectFB 0.9.12
is ready for download. 2002-06-05 DirectFB 0.9.11, XDirectFB 1.0-rc2, GTK+-DirectFB 2.0.3New keyboard handling with Unicode support, Savage framebuffer and DirectFB driver, VMware framebuffer driver, other improvements and fixes... For a summary of changes for DirectFB please look at the NEWS file. For a full list you should read the ChangeLog. For a list of changes for XDirectFB see its ChangeLog.
DirectFB 0.9.11
is ready for download. Updated versions of DFBNester and DFBKana will be ready in the next few days. 2002-04-25 GTK+-DirectFB version 2.0.2 availableBased upon the 2.0.2 release of GTK+, we have built a new tarball of GTK+ for DirectFB. Despite the numerous bug-fixes in the official GTK+ tarball this release fixes a couple of bugs in the DirectFB port. On the GTK+ page you will find a patched version of GTK+-2.0.2. This release needs DirectFB-0.9.10, glib-2.0.1, atk-1.0.1 and pango-1.0.1. The download area has updated packages of the these libraries. directfb-engine, our port of the pixmap engine has also been updated to work with DirectFB-0.9.10. You can download verrsion 0.3 here. 2002-04-25 XDirectFB 1.0-rc1The new rootless XDirectFB with support for translucent windows for all applications has been released. XDirectFB, the rootless XServer on top of DirectFB has been released. It's main feature is the ability to change the opacity of each X11 toplevel window with the mouse wheel. There's also an option to have an extra opacity for unfocused windows. More screenshots can be found here. 2002-04-22 DirectFB 0.9.10 releasedMajor bug fix release. Many other improvements and API additions. All other packages have been updated, too. For a summary of changes for DirectFB please look at the NEWS file. For a full list you should read the ChangeLog.
DirectFB 0.9.10
is ready for download. Initial releases of XDirectFB, DFBNester (see screenshots) and DFB++ will be ready in the next few days. 2002-04-15 Blinkenlights for DirectFBThanks to DirectFB, the famous Blinkenlights installation now comes to your computer screen. From September 12th, 2001 to February 23rd, 2002, the Chaos Computer Club turned a large office building at Berlin Alexanderplatz into the world's biggest interactive computer display, dubbed Blinkenlights. Recently the software used for the installation has been released. The collection of blinkentools features a nifty simulator as well as a blinkenlights movie viewer for the iPaq, both based on DirectFB. 2002-03-22 Shaped windows and moreAnother screenshot of rootless XDirectFB is available. We recently added shaped window support to XDirectFB which is available via CVS. Other features include configurable opacity for focused and unfocused windows. XDirectFB will be released when DirectFB 0.9.10 is out. 2002-03-11 GTK+-DirectFB version 2.0.0 availableThe GTK+ team has finally released version 2.0.0 of the GIMP toolkit, thus declaring the X11 backend of GTK+-2.0 as stable. For your convenience we have built a tarball based on this release that has the DirectFB patches already applied. On the GTK+ page you will find a patched version of GTK+-2.0.0. The download area also has updated packages of the libraries needed to build GTK+. This release needs DirectFB-0.9.9, glib-2.0.0, atk-1.0.0 and pango-1.0.0. So we can finally base GTK+-DirectFB on officially released stable versions of GTK+ and friends. The DirectFB backend still misses some feature but it is in pretty good shape and should be sufficient for most embedded application. We will continue to work on improvements. directfb-engine, our port of the pixmap engine has also been updated and released as version 0.2. Grab it all from the download area. 2002-02-20 Rootless X on DirectFBFirst screenshot of upcoming rootless XDirectFB based on XFree CVS. After some fixes and cleanups a completely new XDirectFB based on current XFree CVS will be released. It opens a DirectFB window for each toplevel X window like XonX for Aqua. The opacity of these windows can be changed with the mouse wheel. 2002-02-20 DirectFB 0.9.9 releasedMajor feature enhancements. All other packages have been updated, too. DirectFB-extra is a new package containing an OpenQuicktime video provider and an Imlib2 image provider.
